Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que is a Llano landmark. I have visited every location, but nothing cries out Texas like the original.

It was a sweltering hot summer day in Llano when we pulled up. Coming straight from the river, we felt refreshed and hungry for some good ‘ole Texas Pit Bar-B-Que. And you can bet that is exactly what we got!

“The Big Chop” is a staple here and something you must try for yourself! George W. Bush brought Cooper’s some National coverage when he declared it his favorite barbecue restaurant. Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que has many accolades and one trip through there fast-moving line will let you know why.

As you pull up, you hear the crackling of wood and the rich smell of smoke. I feel like I am in heaven. I only got hungrier from the aroma as I made my way through the line and conversed with some of the locals. We did not waste any time ordering… I wanted to try it all!

I must say that there was not a menu item we tried that did not put a smile on my face. My favorite was the big beef rib. As you can see in the photography, you need…  just one rib. Every bite was better than the last and as I washed it down with their absolutely amazing, sweet tea, I stopped and took in the moment. I am so proud to be a Texan. This restaurant, this town and these people are exactly what Texas is all about.

Blue Bell Ice Cream along with peach and pecan cobbler was next on my itinerary and believe me it hit the spot. If I lived in Llano, you would find me popping in to grab a quick cup of cobbler and cream on the reg for sure!

I have enjoyed Cooper’s in Junction for years, but the original location will always have a special place in my heart for many reasons. It is worth driving out of your way… you can thank me later!
